Ford Shelby GT500

Ford Shelby GT500

When it comes to vintage cars, rare has a huge impact on cost, and can hardly find a more unique model, the only one in its kind. When this car also became the founder of the whole model range, you can be sure that the possession of such a rarity will have to pay a round sum.

As it became known, unique 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang would be put up for auction Mecum on may 17. Originally it was conceived as a demonstration vehicle for tyres Goodyear "Thunderbolt", but Carroll Shelby and don McCain turned it into something much more significant.

McCain was the sales manager of Shelby American, and it predicted that in the market there is a place for cars, more powerful, than Shelby GT500. As at that time Carroll Shelby was at the head of the program GT40, McCain convinced him to establish a 7-liter cursor of GT40 in intended for test of tires GT500. Fred Goodell, the engineer of Shelby who has equipped the car with the same engine who was used on GT40 Mk II which have subdued Le Mans was responsible for technical part. As a result, on light there was Mustang which were squeezing out about 600 hp, and capable to disperse to 275 km/h. His name which has been thought up by McCain - Shelby Super Snake.

The Goodyear test passed successfully in spite of the fact that tires Thunderbolt were the narrowest, from ever established on Shelby GT500.  The public, however, was in where smaller delight from Super Snake cost ($8 000), being even more expensively, than legendary 427 Cobra.  Eventually, only the test car that does it to one of the most desirable acquisitions for any serious collector was made.

The present owner, Richard Ellis, got the car with only 26 000 miles on the odometer, and despite a good general condition, Ellis did everything possible to return Super Snake to that condition in which it was in day of test of Goodyear.
Almost impossible to guess at what the space number Super Snake will go under the hammer, as it just does not compare. Completely original 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback was sold in January, Barrett-Jackson auction for $ 192,500, so we can assume that the very first Super Snake will significantly exceed this figure.
