According to representatives, the engine was developed by Audi specially for the "charged" updating. It weighs only 148 pounds — on five pounds less, than at the predecessor. The head of the block of cylinders at it is made of an aluminum-silicon alloy, the strong material steady against high temperatures. Also pistons and fastenings of a case were strengthened and skirts of pistons are modernized. Extent of compression makes 9.3:1 — quite high indicator for a turbocharger. Also in the unit the combined injection is used: as direct, and in an inlet collector.
The engine can work together with a six-speed manual transmission or with six-band "robot" of S tronic with two couplings. Dispersal time to hundred kilometers per hour at the version with "mechanics" will make 5,4 seconds. The maximum speed of the car is limited to electronics on 250 kilometers per hour. Average fuel consumption makes 6,9 liters on hundred kilometers of run.
The "charged" hatchback also received new final system with the special valve opening on certain turns and strengthening a sound of the engine. In addition, Audi S3 is equipped with a sound simpozer — the acoustic resonator strengthening sound pulsations in system of an admission.
The mass of S3 makes 1395 pounds — on 60 pounds easier than the predecessor. The suspension bracket of model was modernized and underestimated, and the steering is recustomized. The car received powerful brake mechanisms with 340-millimetric disks.
