The company Mercedes-Benz has built for the Paris auto show the production version of electric car SLS AMG. In Germany the new product will be sold at the price of 416 thousand 500 Euro, that in two time more expensive than gasoline modification.
The model is equipped with four electric motors, hidden in the wheels. Their total efficiency is 751 horse power and 1000 Nm of maximum torque, which makes the electric SLS AMG the most powerful model in the history of AMG. Acceleration from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour takes a supercar 3.9 seconds. The maximum speed is limited by electronics on a mark of 250 kilometres per hour.
In the development of lithium-ion batteries with a water-cooled specialists of the Studio AMG has helped the British company, High Performance Engines, has created the system of recuperation of energy for cars of Formula 1 (now KERS this company use commands Mercedes AMG, McLaren and Force India). 548-kg batteries with a capacity of 60 kilowatt-hours are located in the area of transmission tunnel and behind the backs of the chairs, where the petrol
version is a tank of gas.
Charging the batteries SLS AMG from the usual socket takes about 20 hours, and fast charging stations are able to charge a supercar for three hours. During the movement of batteries receive energy from the system of regeneration of energy at braking. In this case, as in Formula-1, the driver is able to choose their own modes of its work.
To create an electric powertrain engineers Mercedes-Benz had to completely redo the front suspension for the placement of electric motors, install a new electro-hydraulic power steering, as well as to expand the use of aluminum and carbon fiber in the design to compensate for the weight of the batteries. The novelty has received a powerful brake mechanisms with 402-millimeter carbon-ceramic discs at the front and 360-mm rear and 19-inch wheel disks with tires dimension 265/35 front and 20-inch wheels with tires 295/30 behind.
Gullwing SLS AMG on electric became the second model of the Mercedes-Benz after the B-Class, which is driven by electric motors.
